Cybersecurity for Individuals and Citizens

When:  Nov 13, 2019 from 03:00 PM to 05:00 PM (CT)

Sponsored by the RCBA

Description:

How the cyber threat landscape is impacting all of us in our personal and professional lives. Recent cybercrime events have challenged us to expand our defenses in what we considered safe havens. Our dependency on technology creates a digital fabric that is targeted by cyber criminals and the burden of protecting it is on us as individuals and citizens of Minnesota.

Part I: Easiest Catch: Don’t Be Another Fish in the Dark ‘Net
You've read the headlines. Unfortunately, the question now is not if your information is going to be accessed or stolen, but when. To inform the attendees of current developments in the digital underground as well as provide realistic advice for cyber protection, Mark Lanterman will discuss recent high-profile cybercrime events, including website breaches impacting a variety of organizations and sectors. He will discuss particularly dangerous types of threats that might affect individuals involving the Dark Web, the Internet of Things, phishing, and Wi-Fi attacks; additionally, Lanterman will demonstrate the value of leveraging digital evidence and ESI in the courtroom.

Part II: Defending Future Minnesota
Demand for digital government services has exploded over the last few years, and it continues to grow. Technology is involved in nearly every aspect of the services that Minnesota state government provides, including health care data and services, air and water quality reporting systems, and preparations for public health emergencies. Minnesota Information Technology Services (MNIT) has a duty to protect the information entrusted to government by Minnesotans. Rohit Tandon will discuss the cybersecurity challenges facing the state, and the things MNIT is doing to prepare for or respond to actual and potential cyber threats.
