Alternative Legal Models - Everything Small Is Big Again

When:  Jun 3, 2019 from 04:00 PM to 05:00 PM (CT)

Deadline to Register: Thursday, May 30, 2019

4:00 - 5:00: Karin Ciano on Alternative Legal Models

5:10 - 6:45: Law Hacks

CLE Description:

Law school, and the profession as a whole, focuses on connecting new lawyers with a few slices of the legal industry: large private firms, government, nonprofits, the courts, and academia. But it has always been true, and is still true today, that most lawyers practice law in smaller firms or as solo practitioners. If you're curious about working in a solo shop or small firm, or wondering how to steer your professional path toward eventual firm ownership, come join the conversation at MSBA.

Presenter:

Karin Ciano, is a lawyer, writer, teacher, and connector who believes that small law firms have the power to close the justice gap. Since starting her own firm in 2011, Karin has informally mentored a number of new lawyers eager to hang their shingle. In late 2016, after CCLI's incubator launched and interim Executive Director, Virginia ("Ginny") Bell, was ready to transition its operations, Karin was happy to start serving as CCLI's acting Executive Director. CCLI made it official in summer 2017. Karin continues to litigate civil rights cases in her own practice and also enjoys litigating probate disputes with the boutique firm Mason & Helmers. Karin has taught on many topics including legal writing, federal practice, freelance practice, and ethics for solo and small firm lawyers.
