Dear New Lawyers Section Members,

Do you like to write? Do you want to be published? Then Hearsay is for you!  Writing for Hearsay is a great way to practice your writing skills, showcase your expertise and get published. The New Lawyers Section is currently looking for authors to submit articles for its winter publication of Hearsay, which is distributed to over 3,000 new lawyers in Minnesota.  Below please find a short Q&A from the editors about the winter publication of Hearsay:

  1. Who can submit articles to Hearsay?

Any new lawyer can submit an article to Hearsay.  In case you need a refresher, a "new lawyer" is an attorney that has been admitted to practice within the past six years, or who are less than 36 years of age.

  1. What topics does Hearsay accept submissions for?

For the winter publication, Hearsay is specifically soliciting articles on the topic of oral arguments.  For example, potential articles could focus on formal motion hearings, informal telephone conferences, opening and/or closing arguments, objecting to evidence offered at trial or tailoring an argument to the audience (jury v. court v. opposing counsel).  However, Hearsay accepts and reviews article submissions on any topic.

  1. How do I get published?

If oral arguments are an area of interest to you, submit your article to Hearsay editors Blair Harrington or Kyle Willems by Monday, December 5, 2016.  The editors will review the submissions and select 3-5 articles for publication.  The editors will then work with the authors to edit the articles to produce a draft ready for publication.

  1. How long does my article submission need to be?

Submissions should be around 500 words, and no longer than 2,000 words.

Please send any further inquiries to Hearsay editors Blair Harrington or Kyle Willems.  Remember, the deadline to submit articles for the winter issue is Monday, December 5, 2016.

We look forward to your queries and submissions.
